Dr. Raul Leon is the founder of My Ecuador. Raul Leon has a passion for traveling and discovering new places. This passion has taken Raul to visit over 40 states across the United States, to live abroad in Europe, and to travel in Central and South America. These experiences reaffirmed his desire to create and build a travel and educational provider that will offer others the opportunity to learn, travel, and truly immerse in the local culture.
Raul earned his B.A. in International Relations from St. Cloud State University (SCSU). He also holds a masters degree in International Public Affairs (International Development in Latin America) and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis, both degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
During his career, Raul has worked closely with international education programs and initiatives serving international students, study abroad participants, and living-learning communities with a focus on international education. His passion for education and traveling, his knowledge of international affairs, and his experience working with universities and institutions on a daily basis, allow him to continue to forge international educational opportunities that will allow travelers to discover his home country!
As a faculty member, Raul has received numerous local and national awards recognizing his scholarship, leadership, and impact on higher education. As a researcher, he has maintained an active research agenda with over 35 policy relevant scholarship contributions. One of his areas of expertise is study abroad.
As a native of Ecuador, he has provided leadership for My Ecuador Trip, organizing and leading educational and cultural trips since 2010. Equipped with local knowledge, expertise in the field of education, experience leading over 80 educators in study tours, and a passion for learning, Raul is eager to lead our next Study Tour in Ecuador
